Works great on my Ovation acoustic/electric. As other reviewer's have said, you do have to squeeze it a little hard open it, but it's not really an issue. Most guitar players have well developed muscles in their left hand anyway.

I bought the pink one for my daughter last year and the blue one last week. My nine year old son just started lessons, I had him bring both his cheap child guitar and his sister's pink guitar. No surprise her guitar was much better. His teacher was impressed by the sound and how it stayed in tune over the week. I am not sure if I can recommend this guitar for serious players but for starters it is perfect. The price is great, I have no problems if he decides that he doesn't want to play in a few months. If he continues to play we can more up to another guitar, but for now this one is perfect. Plus, the blue and pink are both very nice looking.

This is the second Planet Waves humidifier I have purchased. The first one, I got 5 years ago, when I got my Taylor. It has a slightly different design, but similar in functionality. The old one still works great. I got this one for my daughter who just got a Taylor. They dry out in less than a week in the dry winter months, but it only takes a few minutes to dampen them again with distilled water.

This new version, where the top flange snaps off to expose the sponge, is much easier to use than the old version. You can moisten the sponge quickly and easily without any syringe to annoy you or to lose. However, you CAN lose the top flange, and I think I finally did, somehow -- have not seen it in a while.

Another benefit to this new model is that the body width -- and therefore the amount you have to displace your strings -- is less. that's good on all guitars but especially where strings are close, as on a 12-string. I've had several different types of humidifiers but now this is best I've found. (Honestly though the ones I admired most were the old plastic 35mm film film containers my friend drilled some holes in, stuffed with sponge, and would wet and toss into the guitar case. I have had my for awhile now. Refill is not too difficult. My instrument seems heaby, but the spongy material has a nasty blackness to it. New, it had a white to beige appearance, but not now. I've had friends suggest to bleach it ... etc., etc., but I'm afraid of chemical residue invading my wood and compromising my precious. I'm already looking around. Bought an Oasis, but I have some reservations about that too.

This thing works fine, as long as you are a patient person. It takes some time to fill the sponge with water from the syringe a few drops at a time. Also the fact that it is in between the strings makes the strings go out of tune a bit because its bending them. The sponge also becomes discolored. The good thing is that the humidity will reach the neck since it is not enclosed in the body like other humidifiers. All in all its not too bad.

The hygrometer is worthless. Mine has no color change at all. I guess this sponge in a rubber tube works. Instructions are a couple of sentences, and give no indication that it dries out in a couple of days. I thought it'd last at least a week in a close case, with the soundhole covered.

I live in the high mountain desert and my home (and guitars) are subjected to temperature extremes despite my having some measure of climate control.



I noticed that one of my acoustics was slowing losing its arch in the soundboard and I became concerned that the dry air was destroying this great instrument. After reviewing material on the web about maintaining proper humidity in the guitar itself and viewing a demonstration on how the use of this product had the capacity to restore a dry or drying guitar, I purchased this product with an eye to prevent any further deterioration in my guitar.



I am pleased to say that it works. At first I noticed that the guitar was not getting any dryer and the apparent change in the soundboard stopped. After about a month, the arch has come back into the top. I am glad I bought this product.



If you choose to use this product, follow directions and get some information from the web (Taylor Guitars for one) on how to tell if the instrument is dry and what to look for as humidity is restored.



My only complaint is that the measuring system to determine the level of humidity leaves quite a bit to be desired. Check your local Radio Shack or research and shop for on Amazon an easier to use meter.



A great product, you will not be sorry!
