"Noninvasive quality guitar strap button" 2010-05-18
By C. Gonzalez (Scottsbluff, NE)
I love this guitar strap button. It's a great alternative to the invasive buttons that have to be screwed in. I actually purchased it for my new Mahalo U-35PK Sparkling Soprano Ukulele Outfit in Pink. It works well for it's stated purpose and appears to be of high quality. The leather is nice and soft and the button fits snuggly into the leather hole. Check out my user name stinkylungs on Youtube to see a video I made of me installing it on my new uke if you want to see it up close.

 "Guitar Lover" 2010-05-10
By Shawn Mokh (California, USA)
In my opinion, Nice look, good sound, well constructed.

action is too high(6th fret and after).Hard to play.

After max adjust, still high. Does not stay tunned long.

I would have not bought it, if I knew, for these reasons.

"Unacceptable finish; embarrassemt to Yamaha" 2010-04-23
By Reticent Reviewer (Southeastern USA)
I really looked forward to receiving this guitar. My friends and the reviews had good things to say about Yamaha guitars. I unwrapped it, played a few cords, and noticed large blotches on the left side of the front. It appeared that the wood was bare in some spots, as if it missed the varnish stage. The guitar was packaged well and showed no indication of rubs in shipping. I don't know how this passed any quality inspection. Because they put out a guitar with a finish this marred, it does not speak well of the overall quality. Not expecting perfection, but this was an embarrassment to Yamaha. It's going back. Very disappointed.

 "Great guitar" 2010-04-09
By Tawhid A. Rana (SC, USA)
I am a beginner guitar learner. I researched online about guitars and bought this guitar because it seemed a good deal for quality and price. Now I take it to my guitar class and I can feel that my guitar sounds best among all of the guitars that students use. I hope this guitar will last for a long time and be a friend of my happiness.

"Not bad for what it's used for" 2010-05-18
By SueƱo Flamenco (Fresno, CA USA)
I bought this 1/2 size guitar for my almost 3-yr old son. It was a little smaller than I expected, didn't read the specs. But it turned out to be a perfect size for him. He just loves his own guitar. As far as the sound quality, let's just say it's a step above toy guitars. Overall, it's the right tool for the job.

 "Decent but doesn't hold a tuning." 2010-04-21
By E. Hoffman (NY USA)
I bought this guitar for my son's 4th birthday. He likes it and it's well-sized for him but it doesn't hold a tune. I.e. it needs to be re-tuned every 5-10 minutes or so. I don't know if this is because it's a nylon-string or what, but it's definitely a pain.

"Great Guitar for a Toddler" 2009-12-23
By TJW (New York)
From the other reviews it would appear that this is not ideal for an older child learning to play guitar as it slips out of tune.

I was looking for a guitar for a three year old toddler who loves to pretend to play guitar and sing along.

I had tried out other 1/2 size guitars but this seems more robust than the previous one I bought and the nylon strings are definitely easier on the fingers.

I would have preferred that it came with a strap but I think that other than this it is a great guitar for a 3 or 4 year old to play with.

 "Great for beginners" 2010-05-09

I bought this guitar for my husband who wanted to learn how to play. He really likes it and I think will get a lot of use out of the guitar. The tuner and learn to play dvd aren't as good as the ones that comes standard on our Mac, but it's okay.

By Alison B. Scudder (Delaware)
I purchased this item as a gift for my 16 daughter who said she wanted a guitar. The accessories that come with the guitar are wonderful. You would end up paying a whole lot more if you had to buy them extra. She loves the guitar. It is great for a beginner or for someone who is advancing. The sound is beautiful and the quality of the guitar itself is very high.

I bought this guitar for my boyfriend for christmas and he absolutely loves it. The instructional dvd is very helpful and the tuner worked perfectly.  "Getting what you pay for" 2010-01-06
By A. Watkins (Baltimore, USA)
I got this a couple months ago as my first guitar, and at first I was very pleased with it. Once you get it tuned properly it produces a good sound just strumming the strings openly. But as you get better and begin to play more complicated chords and songs, the flaws of this guitar become clear. The action is very poor, and the frets are cheap, as you would expect for the price. The fretboard of my guitar is fairly smooth and comfortable for a guitar of this class, but I know three other people who have this guitar and each one feels different, and the wood on theirs was rougher, so who knows what you will get. However, this is a good guitar for a beginner to learn on, especially because the entire package is a great deal. I've seen complaints about the tuner, but mine works fine. The bag provided is truly a waste, it does nothing for protecting the guitar, so if you plan on moving it around a lot you should consider buying a padded gig bag separately. I haven't used the strap much, but beware that the strap holder on the bottom comes out very easily. I didn't use the second set of strings they provided, so I can't really speak on that (I purchased Ernie Ball Earthwoods, which I would highly recommend). Basically, if you are just starting out this is a good package for you to get, but if you have experience I suggest you spend the extra cash and get a higher quality guitar, it makes a big difference.

"Not sure if you'll keep playing? Buy this kit. Otherwise, consider buying individual components." 2009-12-01
By B. Bennett (Pittsburgh, PA)
I'd never played guitar until I bought this one last month, so I can't compare this to others, but it's a great deal for the price. Yamaha quality and consistency are worth the few extra dollars you'll spend over cheap starter guitars.

If you're buying this as a gift for a beginner who has nothing, this is probably an awesome deal. If you're buying this for yourself, the extras may not be worth the extra money, unless you're a complete beginner who isn't sure if you'll stay with it, in which case the DVD alone is probably worth it.

Concerning the glue issue raised by another reviewer, mine did not have any unsightly extra glue squeezed out from where the neck extends onto the body. Sure, it's evident that glue was used, but only upon extremely up-close inspection.

--------

PRICE

The guitar alone (F325 Acoustic Guitar) is currently $17 less on Amazon, so you're essentially paying that much for the extras. From what I've seen looking about at DVDs for learning, the DVD is worth that if not more. Unless you decide that playing guitar isn't for you though, you'll most likely be replacing other extras, so, except for the extra set of strings, I wouldn't factor those much into the price.

--------

EXTRAS

Some thoughts on the extras:

DVD: Excellent -- professionally done and doesn't seem to be available without the kit. Teaches the basics like how to hold it, tuning, strumming, etc. The Chord Dictionary is pretty nice -- shows various chords and finger positions for them. The Chord Studio is pretty cool -- you play chords you've learned with a backup band, which makes practicing fun. The only negative thing I'll say is that the initial intro had me worried about the quality of the rest of the DVD, but it turned out to be great (the instructor seems much more comfortable showing you things than he does just standing there and speaking at the beginning).

Digital Tuner: The one included in the kit is the Qwik Tune Electronic Guitar and Bass Tuner QWIQT11. Based on reviews, you're probably going to want a Korg, as another reviewer said. You can the higher-rated Korg GA-30 Ultra Compact Guitar and Bass Tuner currently for less than $11, or pay a few dollars more for a large-display model like the Korg GA-40 Large Display Guitar and Bass Tuner or Korg TM-40 Large Display Digital Tuner and Metronome (which both had "add to cart" pricing as of this review).

Extra Strings: You'll need them, eventually. Worth a few bucks, anyway.

Picks: You can buy these for next to nothing, but it's nice to have a few to start with.

Guitar Strap: It's not pictured in the non-kit F325, so not sure if it's a true extra. At any rate, I'm not convinced this would last more than a few months before starting to look ratty. It's a strap though and functions as one.

Gig Bag: Like someone said, it's not worth much, but for this price, I wouldn't expect much either. It might keep your guitar from getting scratched -- or might not (since it's not padded or lined, I wouldn't be surprised if putting it in and out of the bag won't do more harm than good over time.). It's not going to protect the guitar if you intend to travel about with it and it's not useful for carrying anything but the guitar. Check out the World Tour WG20D Deluxe 20mm Acoustic Guitar Gig Bag or Musicians Gear Deluxe Dreadnought Case, Black for a couple of high-rated, economic options.

Overall, I'm thrilled with my purchase, even though I've added a hard case, strap and tuner to my wish list for Christmas.

"Best Quality for the Money" 2010-05-04
By David M. Gammon (western Indiana)
I am both a bass player and a fidelity freak, always fussing over tone settings. This tiny amp packs BIG sound for everything from a harmonica to a keyboard .... and even my bass. The CD input has NO controls but is a very useful feature just the same. Having Behringer mics and a UB802 mixer, I banked on this being a good amp and was NOT disappointed. The 3-band tone controls do an excellent job of shaping sound to fit any instrument. No 15-watt amp will compete with live drums OR outdoor settings.... and do NOT expect 2 instruments to sound perfect together, but for indoor practicing and intimate small crowds, this amp will impress you. Every musician should have one of these around. Money well spent!

 "Good sound, comfortable" 2010-03-21
By Abe (Long Island, NY)
They have a good sound and don't get uncomfortable after wearing them for a long time. It's actually bad to listen to some music through them, with a good headphone amp, because you can hear all the high-frequency flaws and imperfections in the recording.

"You have not heard your music until you've heard it in one of these..." 2010-02-19
By F. Rossi (Chicago, IL United States)
I had never Lou Reed's breathing.

I did now. And it's oh so crisp!

As soon as I took this out of the box (which says Made in Austria, by the way, meaning auto-awesome), I played "Transformer" and it sounded, well, like it was meant to sound.

These are big, but extremely comfortable. They're not "stylish" in the way that some headphones are, but they're great if you plan on wearing them for hours on end, especially when you're mixing stuff.

I'm no audiophile, on the contrary, I'm deaf. Just kidding. But these are my first actual studio Headphones; I've recorded my own music for at least 10 years and am quite content with lo-fi equipment, but now I realize having great a great monitor is essential, otherwise it's like getting dressed in the dark and not having a mirror to see how you look.

Either way. Buy this thing. It's so cheap for how great it is.

"Biggest bang for the buck - period." 2010-02-01
By amaxis (Charlotte, NC)
I've owned AKG 240's since the late 70's and they are fantastic. Very durable as I am just buying my 3rd pair in 30+ years. Use them several times a week. Amazing sound - clear and balanced. I've seen more than one music documentary where the 240's were shown used in the studio(s)- so that should tell you something. I've been in music for over 30 years and really have no use for any other headphones. And the price is outstanding for the quality.

"Accurate headphones at an affordable price" 2010-01-17
By Floyd
Besides these headphones I also own a pair of Sony MDR-7506's so I may make some comparisons in this review. Being a producer of electronic music, I need a pair of headphones that are accurate. These headphones are some of the best I've heard as far as accuracy. Compared to the MDR-7506's these headphones sound a bit duller but only because they do not exaggerate the highs like the Sony's do. They are open so anyone used to big booming bass (which is never good anyway) will be disappointed at first. Do not buy these headphones if you plan to listen to low-quality music through them, they will sound horrible.

"Good sound, but make sure they fit your ears" 2009-12-10
By Dave (North central Arkansas)
I've had the AKG 240's and Koss Pro 4AA's. The AKG phones are lighter and have good sound, but my ears don't fit perfectly in those circular cushions, and they begin to hurt after a while. The Koss Pro 4AA's have a more elongated space for ears. (Maybe my ears have gotten bigger as I've progressed through the aging process.) Whatever, I'm returning to the Koss Pro 4AA phones.

 "Doesn't solve the hum" 2009-11-19
By J. Hutson (Beatrice, PA United States)
Seems to be a good product, but not sure if the product is working properly, because the hum in my set up is still there. That's probably due one or more of the dimmers in the house, which this product is not designed to eliminate. Hence the rating. See other review.

"Decent rack mount power strip" 2009-08-31
By Mourty (South West PA)
Functions well so far, few months. Looks nice and seems to be built well. Fit properly in the rack, no problems mounting it. Did nothing for the noise I had coming out of the whole house audio speakers. I looked into it further it ended up being a ground loop. I isolated the ground at the outlet where this unit plugs in, and the noise dropped by 99%. This unit does not claim to prevent ground loop noise, so I cannot fault it. I can say that this unit does not introduce any noise into my system, that I can tell at least (I'm not an audiophile).

Wish the price was a bit lower, seems like manufacturers really jack up the price when they create rack mount tabs on an item.
