Every time you pick up your guitar and play, you leave tiny bits of dead skin, body oils, sweat, and all types of gunk loitering on your strings. Stuck between the windings (a space Elixir calls theCritical Zone of Tone), these contaminants dampen vibration and accelerate corrosion. The result? Strings that are dead, rough and dirty. The Cure for the Common String.Elixir Strings are coated in a unique way to protect wound strings from your DNA and other contaminants. A flexible, strong, yet micro-thin polymer tube defends the Critical Zone of Tone from invading enemies. Nothing (including the coating) gets between the windings. The result? Strings that sound and feel their best three to five times longer than ordinary strings. The Choice is YoursElixir Strings are available in two different flavors. Both deliver the same long life, but differ in tone and feel.

I tried these a couple of years ago. I am very bad about changing my strings. Usually when one breaks. But I thought these might be nice. So I tried them. They were very bright sounding. And I thought "that's probably because you haven't changed your strings in 2 years" But, yeah even after a couple of months these strings really have a nice sound to them and don't seemed to get mucked down as fast. After playing though for a few months any strings are going to get dirty but these seem to last longer and sound better. Try em.

Second set I've put on my Ovation half-shell back. Crisp, clean sound. Sliding on the neck feels like silk. Great finish to prevent tarnish and easy on the fingers!

At a friend's suggestion, I purchased a set of these hoping to reduce the number of times I had to replace my strings. The 3rd string (D-string) snapped during installation and the string wasn't even close to being up to tension.
While it would be theoretically great to have a set of strings that would last much longer, paying 3-4 times the going rate for a set of strings that breaks during installation is ridiculous. I contacted Elixir, but never heard a word. So much for their quality control and customer service. Not impressed!
I would suggest sticking with more reliable strings (Martin, ghs, etc.).

These strings are amazing. It was hard to believe the reviews, but the idea behind the construction makes sense. In any case, even while being skeptical about it I found these provide one of the better sounds I've had AND I have kept them on longer than any other string, bar none. I want to add that they actually sound better than most other strings right out of the package, because they don't have that first two hours of being much too bright. Yet they are far from dull, just moderately bright. Perfect. And their sound stays amazingly even for dozens of hours of playing. I've probably had my current set on twice as long as any other string and they still haven't gone dead or tinny. In fact one of the ways I can tell they last so long is that they are starting to look incredibly dirty and i'm thinking of replacing them just for the visual effect. No other string would ever make it to this dirty, they would have broken or just worn out their sound long before. I thought if any string was going to last this long it might be DRs or something, but I guess Elixir's micro coating is the winning factor.

The Nanoweb strings do stay clean and they stand up but, on the negative side...
I replaced one string in my set with a nanoweb and noticed right away the feel was slippery. When picking my fingers would slip on the nano string rather than pluck. I will stick to cleaning my good old standard strings.
